About Paul

Paul grew up in Brevard County, Florida. He graduated from New College, an honors program. He then attended the University of Florida College of Law, graduating from there in 1987. Paul has been practicing law now for over 25 years.

He spent nearly a decade as an Assistant State Attorney in Brevard County, where he prosecuted serious crimes. Paul was chosen his office’s “Trial Attorney of the Year” in 1996. He was also recognized for his ability in working with people victimized by crime. Paul eventually became the Chief Trial Attorney for sex crimes and crimes against children.
Paul left the State Attorney’s Office in 1997 to work for Steven A. Bagen & Associates, eventually becoming the head of litigation. He conducted many personal injury trials all over the State of Florida. From 2006 – 2013, Paul was a partner at the law firm of Hutson & Brockway, P.A. Paul rejoined our firm in January of 2014.

Paul is a member of the Florida Bar as well as the Federal Bars for the Middle District and Northern District of Florida. Paul became Board Certified in Civil Trial in 2008 and is therefore allowed to describe himself as an expert in civil trial work, the field that includes personal injury and wrongful death cases. Less than 2% of Florida attorneys are Board Certified in Civil Trial. To attain this honor, he had to prove he had conducted many civil jury trials as lead counsel, survive a lengthy application process and investigation, and pass a difficult written examination.

Paul has served the community in other ways, including his participation as a member and as chairperson of the 8th Circuit Attorney Grievance Committee B. This organization investigates attorneys for allegations they have violated the Code of Professional Conduct. He has also served on the Board and as President of the James C. Adkins Chapter of the American Inns of Court, an organization dedicated to promoting attorney professionalism, ethics, and competence.

We are pleased to announce the return of Board-Certified Civil Trial Attorney Paul Brockway in 2023, after a hiatus for a couple of years to work with another Gainesville personal injury firm of trial lawyers. Paul has chosen to return to representing the litigation clients at Bagen Law, providing top quality client service for all clients injured in semi truck, car and motorcycle accidents.

Paul is married and has two lovely and talented daughters. He and his family are members of Queen of Peace Catholic Community in Gainesville.
